Someone you love is in a bad place. You say the kindest, truest
thing you can think of. It doesn’t land. You try again, more carefully. Still
nothing.
The usual explanation is about the person. They are
being defensive. They are not ready. They don’t want help.
This model says it isn’t about them. It is about position.
When someone is in Minus there is no ground under them, and nothing lands there.
You could say the most perfect sentence in the language and it would pass straight
through.
The failure wasn’t the message. It was
that you were speaking into a place where speech doesn’t work.
Minus
No ground. Words don’t land, including kind ones and true ones. Reassurance passes through.
Zero
The ground between. Nothing is resolved. But there is footing, and from footing, language starts working again.
Plus
Words carry weight. Connection holds without rupture.
You cannot move anyone from Minus to Plus
directly.
Not another person, and not yourself. The distance
is too great. Zero has to be built first.
